Mike
Henry: SXSW Production Manager in 1995 (coordinating/troubleshooting stage
management for over 40 venues) and SXSW committee member/Spoken Word coordinator for the
past two years (showcases have included folks such as DJ Renegade, Beth Lisick, Justin
Chin, Huncke the Junkie of Kerouac fame, Jeffrey McDaniel, Exene Cervenka, and Lydia
Lunch.) Co-owner (since March 1997) and book agent (since January 1995) of the Electric
Lounge, one of the premier music/avante-garde/poetry venues in Austin (Mike also handles
production for all major touring acts that play the Lounge); former member of the Austin
International Poetry Festival planning committee, co-host of the 1997 AIPF Slam and
numerous open mics. Slammed with the '95 Austin team and coached the '96 Austin team.
Plays drums for two marginally successful Austin-based rock groups. Co-founder of the
Austin Poetry Ensemble.

Phil West:
Veteran arts and entertainment writer with 10 years experience (including the Los Angeles
Times, Seattle Times, and Austin Chronicle); co-host of the Air Salon poetry radio
show on KVRX-FM in Austin; Administrator of the Austin Poetry Slam Team (kept Danny Solis
AND Wammo focused on fundraising efforts for the '96 Austin Team, taught them
"responsibility"), co-host of the 1997 AIPF Slam. Slammed with the '95 Austin
Team and the '96 Austin Final Four team. Awarded the Michener Fellowship (announced last
month) in order to pursue an MFA in Poetry and Playwriting at the University of Texas,
starting Fall '97. Co-founder of the Austin Poetry Ensemble.

Juliette Torrez: Coordinator of the 1994
Lollapalooza Spoken Word Tour. Director of the 1996 and 1997 Albuquerque Poetry
Festivals--one of the premier festivals in the Southwest (this year's festival included a
Hal Sirowitz/Tammy Gomez/Trinidad Sanchez, Jr. spoken word concert and a 17-poet slam
featuring talent from throughout the western half of the Poetry Nation). Merchandise
Director at the 1996 National Poetry Slam. Co-editor of the Revival anthology (1996, Manic
D Press: San Francisco), public relations agent for Feral House (a Portland-based press).
Performed at the SXSW in 1996 and 1997.
